Cryobench

Purpose of the platform (operated by IBS & ESRF)

Platform for UV-visible spectroscopy on nano-volume biological samples

typically protein crystals and solutions, from cryo- to room-temperatures
- Absorption microspectrophotometry.
- Fluorescence microspectrophotometry.
- Fluorescence lifetime measurements
- Raman microspectrometry.
- Actinic (laser) excitation of photosensitive samples.

Typical applications include:

- Monitoring oxidation state in metalloproteins.
- Monitoring X-ray induced radiation damage
- Monitoring the binding of ligands in protein crystals
- Kinetic crystallography.
- Test bench for online spectroscopic experiments on the ESRF MX beamlines
