User Meeting: 15 – 17 September 2010 in Grenoble
We will present the ‘ILL 2020 Vision’ – a plan to support the best science through neutron scattering. We invite you to join us to refine it and explore the scientific opportunities it offers.
The ILL has been at the forefront of neutron science for almost 40 years, and a key factor in this success has been successive campaigns to ensure its instruments enable the community to perform the best possible science. The latest renewal project – the Millennium Programme – has completed its first phase (2001-2008), and is well into its next (2007-2014). It has already delivered 14 new or radically upgraded instruments, providing an increase in the average instrument detection rate by a factor of more than 17, and the current phase will deliver 7 more new or upgraded instruments as well as supporting infrastructure.
Generous funding by ESFRI has supported the development of further plans for instruments and infrastructure in our ‘ILL 20/20 Upgrade’ project. This, together with new ideas for sample environment, software and user support will provide the basis of upgrades in the period 2013-2017, and take us to 2020 and beyond in the best shape to meet the scientific challenges of the future.
We welcome further proposals for instruments and infrastructure from the community, and encourage you to submit your own outlines for discussion at the meeting.
Further details, including a report containing outline proposals for new instruments and infrastructure, and the template you can use to submit your own ideas, are available on the User Meeting website
We will send out a third announcement by the end of April with confirmation of speakers and details about registration.
We very much hope you can join us for a stimulating meeting to help set the future course for ILL and the science we serve.

The ESRF Science and Students Days will be held on 6-7-8 October in Val Cenis-Lanslevillard.
The main goal of the meeting is to promote scientific exchange among the ESRF scientists and get an overview of their diverse activities in a relaxed and informal atmosphere.
All scientists (PhD students, post-docs, scientists, long-term visitors, etc.) of the ESRF Experiments Division and CRG beamlines are invited to attend the meeting.
The DETAILED PROGRAMME is now on line with information for orals, posters and clips on the ESRF intranet website at: http://intranet.esrf.fr/events/science-students-days-2010/ Please register before MONDAY 6 SEPTEMBER. http://intranet.esrf.fr/events/science-students-days-2010/registration
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the organisers.
Looking forward to seeing you there.
